The Basics of Your First Brazilian Waxing Appointment
There’s nothing like a fresh look on any part of us, from the hair on our heads to our hair below the belt! If you’ve been entertaining the idea of getting a Brazilian wax, we’ve got the perfect guide to help you feel confident and comfortable from the moment you arrive and for future appointments to come.
What do I need to know before getting my Brazilian Wax?
There are a few key pointers that will help you transition into a Brazilian wax appointment with ease. If it’s your first time, or it’s been a while, don’t worry about a thing! Our specialists are here to walk you through every step of the way.
How do you know if you need hard wax or soft wax?
Even though both soft wax and hard wax do a great job of separating the hair from the follicle, hard wax, contrary to non-esthetician popular belief, is actually better for small, sensitive areas like the buttocks or bikini area. Your esthetician will know exactly how to guide you through this process and show you how it looks, feels, and works.
Does everyone have a reaction to their first Brazilian wax?
Not everyone will experience a reaction to their first Brazilian wax, but the uncomfortable reality is that a Brazilian wax is going to come with some mild discomfort. It’s not exactly a pleasant experience, but it’s not unbearable, nor extremely painful. Allergies to specific waxing products and ingredients can impact your skin, especially if you’re prone to allergies. You can talk to your esthetician about your allergy concerns, and they can help steer you toward a wax that can help.
Can you customize your wax?
It’s a customizable world, and we use every medium we can to express ourselves. Why should waxing be any different? If you’re into the different shapes and angles your pubic hair can be styled, you definitely have the option to opt for that while you’re going for your Brazilian wax. While traditional Brazilians mean your body hair is removed entirely from that area, you can ask for a landing strip, a triangle, or whatever else feels like your preferred style.
How will you know if Brazilian waxing is right for you?
Sometimes what’s best for other bodies and preferences is not what’s best for you. If you’ve tried other hair removal methods, and you’re struggling to connect with one that feels best for your body and lifestyle, consider waxing for long-lasting results!
You’re tired of shaving, ingrown hairs, and razor nicks
A Brazilian wax might be beneficial for those who are tired of fighting the razor. Depending on the body, aches, strains, and pain, a razor may no longer be an option for some people. For others, it’s the incessant razor burn and excessive ingrown hairs that steer them away. The tiny nicks and cuts that come along with shaving are also popular reasons to ditch the razor altogether.
You’re ready to slow your hair growth, exfoliate and enjoy smooth skin
Shaving off a few days in between wax sessions is something you'll grow accustomed to over time. Your body hair will start to shift, and it’s possible that it will grow back sparser after regular waxing sessions. If you’re ready to stay cleansed, exfoliated, and loving on your silky smooth skin, book your first appointment!
Does Brazilian waxing work for all skin types?
You might be concerned about the sensitive nature of your skin and the way it will or won’t interact with a Brazilian wax– and that’s totally understandable! The good news is that hard wax is specifically formulated for tender, sensitive skin and the regions being waxed.
What should you know leading up to your Brazilian wax?
There are a few things to bear in mind leading up to the Brazilian wax that will keep you aware and successful throughout the process.
The preparation needed for your appointment
A few simple steps can help you prepare your skin for your Brazilian wax, giving the wax itself a gently exfoliated surface to adhere to. Make sure you skip out on caffeine or alcohol the day of your appointment, as both of those things can make your skin a little more sensitive to touch. Ditch any active ingredients like glycolic acid or retinol-based products prior to your appointment. About 24 hours before your scheduled session, gently exfoliate all the areas of your skin that are going to be waxed.
You must allow your hair to grow out 3 to 4 weeks from the last time you’ve had any hair removal, and never trim before your appointment! If it’s “too long”, your esthetician will take care of it. This is because your hair needs to be long enough for the wax to attach and successfully remove it from the roots. Attempting to wax hair that’s too short results in a lot of breakage, and poor results.
Taking care of yourself leading up to your wax
Hydration is your friend, and staying away from harmful UV exposure for the week leading up to your wax is crucial. You want your skin to be in a healed, healthy state– and if you’re recovering from a sunburn, you’ll have to reschedule your appointment for the safety of your skin.
The aftercare to keep your skin happy and healthy
Your post-Brazilian wax is just as important as the pre-wax moment. Be sure to avoid tight clothes and sweaty scenarios, involving friction or otherwise. You can apply a cold pack on the area, take an OTC pain reliever and keep your bath and shower water lukewarm to cool. Wearing loose fitting clothing is a must!
